In Saratov, probe launched in attack on paramedic

Following the results of a preliminary check the Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated criminal proceedings against a 33-year-old resident of Saratov suspected of deliberate cause of medium bodily harm under Part 2, item “a” of Article 115 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on the morning of 25 February 2017, the 33-year-old man was near hospital No 9 in Saratov and upset about how a paramedic was carrying a stretcher with his 27-year-old girlfriend on it. He hit the paramedic at least once with his head on the face breaking his nose.

The investigators have examined the scene, ordered forensic medical examinations and questioned eye-witnesses. At present, a set of necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

The perpetrator has been prosecuted for the administrative offence of minor hooliganism under Part 1 of Article 20.1 of the RF Administrative Offences Code and has been sentenced to 12 days in custody. During this time the investigators will decide on whether he needs to be placed in custody pending trial.
