In Novgorod Regiob, man charged with attacking medical workers and attempt on life of law enforcers to be placed in custody

The Novgorod Region Office of the Investigative Committee continues the investigation in an attack on medical personnel committed on the night of 23 February by a drunk man delivered with a lacerated wound to a hospital in the town of Veliky Novgorod. The man is charged with battery and use of violence and offences against representatives of authority under Article 116, Part 1 of Article 318 and Article 319 of the RF Penal Code.

On the night of 23 February, the 38-year-old man under influence was delivered to the hospital in Veliky Novgorod. He had a conflict with medical personnel of the hospital and injured them.

Once the Chairman of the Investigative Committee learnt about that, he ordered the head of the Novgorod Region Office of the Investigative Committee to take over the investigation into causing bodily harm to medical staff and a security officer of the hospital. Mr. Bastrykin demanded from his subordinates a full and impartial investigation and a decision on the detention of the suspect in the shortest possible time.

The initial investigation has established that after the crime the perpetrator was taken to the Veliky Novgorod police department, where he publicly abused police officers and butted one of them in the face. Today, the Novgorod District Court has granted a request made by the investigator to place the suspect in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
