Alexander Bastrykin orders Novgorod Region investigative authority to immediately take over of probe into attack of drunk patient on medical workers

Today’s monitoring of mass media has revealed reports on yet another attack on medical staff. According to those reports, on the night of 23 February, an ambulance crew delivered to a hospital a drunk 38-year-old man with a lacerated wound on his face from a café in the town of Veliky Novborod. The man then injured three people: a nurse suffered a concussion and a hospital attendant a fracture of face bones. Both women had to have surgeries and are now being treated. The third victim was a security officer of the hospital.

Once the Chairman of the Investigative Committee learnt about it, he ordered the head of the Novgorod Region Office of the Investigative Committee to take over the investigation immediately. Mr. Bastrykin demanded from his subordinates to conduct a full and impartial investigation and to detain the suspect in the shortest possible time.

At present, the investigators are carrying out investigative operations to find out the unbiased picture. They are questioning the hospital staff and eye-witnesses. The progress of the investigation is under control at the Investigative Committee’s central office.
