In Tver Region, probe launched in fire in regional children’s hospital

On the night of 24 February 2017, the Tver Region Office of the Investigative Committee got a report that there was a fire in the Tver Region Children’s Hospital. Investigators of the regional investigative authority took off for the scene. According to preliminary data, there are no victims. Following the results of a check, the Tver Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligence under Part 1.1 of Article 293 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, 1,200 square meter area of the Children’s Hospital got on fire because of negligence of the hospital’s officials responsible for fire safety. The fire brought down the roof of the building, damaged the ceiling on the third floor and other property with over 7.5 million rubles, which accounts for the damage on a very large scale. In addition, it entailed violation of rights and legal interests of more than 140 citizens, including minor patients, for medical aid as they had to be evacuated from the hospital.

The investigators are looking into all the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the exact reasons and conditions of the fire. A fire technical examination has been ordered. The investigation is going to determine the exact sum of the damage done to both the Tver Region and the federal budgets, the exact number of people who suffered moral and pecuniary damage and to identify the guilty officials.
