In Sakha (Yakutia), probe launched into death of two-month-old baby after dog attack

The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent homicide under Part 1 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code after the death of a two-month-old baby in the city of Yakutsk.

As was established, on 27 February 2017, between 2 and 3 PM, the two-month-old girl died of a dog attack in the house in Chelyuskin Street in Yakutsk.

Investigators have found out that the baby was in a pram unattended by adults on the terrace of the house while the dog named Rem was released from an enclosure to walk around the yard. As a result of the dog’s bites, the baby suffered piercing wounds to the head and died on the scene.

After the attack, the dog was put down by representatives of the Animal Service.

The mother of the baby is known for taking in stray dogs and let them stay in her house temporarily. The investigators examining the household found 6 more dogs in enclosures.

A forensic medical examination is underway and a vet test to find out the gods breed, age and whether it had any illnesses. In addition, the investigators are going to look into the conditions the dog was kept under and the reason why the adults left the child unattended. The investigation is ongoing.
