Man suspected of running down and beating boy detained in Leningrad Region

Police has detained Vladimir Belsky suspected of running over a boy and using violence against him which the Leningrad Region Office of the Investigative Committee qualified as disorderly behavior and for which he was wanted.

At present, Belsky is being transported for an interrogation, and soon he is going to be charged and put under restraint.

Instead of turning himself in and confess to cruel and aggressive actions, Belsky had hidden and made commentaries in mass media trying to make excuses and refute something that had been caught on a surveillance camera and documented during investigative operations. It is now the investigators and a court that are going to apply disciplinary measures against the man.

As became known earlier, the investigators are going to check the actions and omission of the police officers when they first learnt about the crime. The policemen who went to the crime scene let the suspect go without looking into the situation properly. In addition, the same day the police got a telephone message from a hospital informing that the child sustained some injuries, but the policemen still did nothing. The investigators are going to give a strict legal assessment to the situation.

The investigation is being supervised by Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.
