In Arkhangelsk, organizers and staff of gambling clubs charged with illegal gambling

The Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee has finished criminal proceedings initiated against members of an organized groups who organized illegal gambling in Arkhangelsk Region. More than 60 cases were opened against 62 members of the organized group. Depending on the role of each one, they are charged with illegal gambling under Part 2, item “a” and Part 3, items “a” and “b” of Article 171.2 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, from December 2014 to August 2016, the members of the group organized illegal gambling in rented buildings in the towns of Arkhangelsk, Severodvinsk and Novodbinsk. All of the buildings were equipped with computers with access to the Internet for gambling, surveillance cameras to spy on the visitors and staff, system of remote control over gambling and money flows and all of the buildings were disguised as Internet clubs. Over the said period the members of the group gained at least 650 million rubles.

The investigators confiscated more than 600 items of gambling equipment, arrested the property of the accused, including their funds and vehicles, worth 5.8 million rubles.

All of the accused, 56 of whom were the staff of gambling clubs, admitted their guilt. Two of the accomplices escaped and are now wanted.

All the cases were opened based on the materials provided by the Economic Security and Corruption Office of the Maritime Police Department and the Arkhangelsk Region Office of the Federal Security Service.

Requests were filed with lessors of the buildings used for illegal gambling to eliminate reasons and contributing factors of the crime.
