Central Office controls probe in road accident in Tatarstan with multiple fatalities

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has ordered the central office to assume control over an investigation in a traffic accident involving a passenger bus that happened in Tatarstan leaving 13 people dead, including 2 children, according to preliminary data.

On the night of 2 July 2017, a passenger bus traveling from the town of Samara to Izhevsk collided with a truck towed by a rigid hitch by a KamAZ truck 9 km from the town of Zainsk. The bus turned over and caught fire. According to preliminary information 13 people were killed, including 2 children. The rest of the passengers were taken to hospitals with a range of injuries. The Tatarstan Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in unsafe services entailing death of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to one of versions, the bus driver got blinded by the truck’s headlights. At present, investigators are examining the scene. 8 bodies were extricated from the bus and are now being identified. Forensic medical examinations have been ordered, other necessary investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
