Chairman of Investigative Committee orders central office to check legality of decisions made in case against woman found guilty of attempted murder in Altai Territory

Following multiple applications filed by citizens and wide public resonance, Alexander Bastrykin has ordered the Procedural Control Directorate of the Investigative Committee to request from the Altai Territory investigative authority case files on the investigation against 33-year-old Oksana Tkachenko and to check legality of procedural decision made on the case.

The Altai Territory Office of the Investigative Committee investigated the case opened against the 33-year-old woman from Barnaul charged with attempted murder. She was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

After the verdict was announced, mass media argued that it was unjust and too severe. They reported that the woman had shot a non-fatal gun at her ex-husband trying to protect herself and her child. Following the Chairman’s orders, the Investigative Committee’s central office is going to look into all the circumstances surrounding the said case and see if procedural decisions made to qualify the crime were full, impartial and legal.
