Following investigators’ request, four Ukrainians arrested in absentia for attacking Russian diplomatic missions

The Head Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigation in attacks on Russian diplomatic missions in Ukraine in 2014-2016.

Investigators have found that citizens of Ukraine Vladimir Romantsov, Aleksei Bakai and Vladimir Nazarenko were involved in the attack on the Russian Embassy in Kiev in 2014. They took active part in damaging the property of the Russian Embassy, and the latter one took part in tearing down the Russian flag.

Vladimir Parasyuk, a deputy of the Ukraine’s Parliament, was involved in the 2016 attack on the Russian General Consulate in Lvov and in ripping the Russian flag from it.

Based on the evidence collected, including footage from open sources and results of forensic examinations, orders have been issued to arrest the said people as accused of attacking an institution under international protection committed to complicate international relations under Part 2 of Article 360 of the RF Criminal Code. Nazarenko and Parasyuk are also charged with outrage upon the State Flag of the Russian Federation under Article 329 of the RF Criminal Code.

The said people have been put on an international wanted list and following a request filed by investigators, a court has ruled to place them in custody in absentia pending trial.

Ukraine’s law-enforcement authorities have been investigating those crimes for a long time, but nobody has been convict to this date.

Though Ukraine basically refused requests of legal assistance filed by Russian investigators, the Investigative Committee keeps on working to identify and punish all those involved in the attacks on Russian diplomatic missions.
