In Sverdlovsk Region, local woman found guilty of killing two of her children and attempting to kill another one

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Sverdlovsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict a woman from the town of Asbest. She was found guilty of murder of two minors under Part 2, items “a” and “c” of Article 105 and attempted murder of a child under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2, items “a” and “c” of Article 105 of the RF Criminal Code.

The court and investigators, have revealed that the woman gave birth to a son in August 2005 and deliberately gave him anticoagulants from August 2005 to April 2006, knowing that they are hard to diagnose and cause death. The sick baby was treated at a hospital and medical care provided there reduced the negative effect of the substances. However, the accused kept on giving them to the baby until he died in April 2006.

The accused gave anticoagulants to her other son born in November 2012, and the boy died at hospital in April 2015.

The woman was stopped in December 2015, when the staff of Sverdlovsk Region children’s hospital No 1 found the medicine that they had not prescribed in blood of her baby born in 2007. The boy received medical aid.

The investigators had to exhume the bodies of the two killed babies to run complex forensic medical examinations, DNA and chemical tests. Handwriting and linguistic examinations were also run. Two forensic psychiatric evaluations found the woman able to appreciate her actions. The investigators questioned some 40 witnesses from among woman’s relatives, acquaintances, teachers and medical workers.

The court has sentenced the accused to 18.5 years in a minimum-security facility.
