In Irkutsk Region, probe launched into death of three children in fire

The Irkutsk Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened an investigation into the death of three children in a fire under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Russia (infliction of death by negligence on two or more persons).

This morning, a fire occurred in a private house on Kommunisticheskaya Street of Khudoelansky rural settlement in Nizheudinsky District. Three children, of one, two and three years old, died in the fire. According to preliminary data, children died of carbon monoxide poisoning; adults were absent at the time of fire. Causes of the fire are being established.

At the moment, investigators are carrying out investigative activities aimed to establish all circumstances of the tragedy. The criminal investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are also checking whether the family of the deceased children had been registered in social services as dysfunctional one. The investigation will include provision of a legal assessment to actions (inaction) of relevant authorities responsible for control over living conditions of minors.
