The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia puts under supervision the progress of investigation of a probe into the death of a traffic police officer in Amur Region

The Amur Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia is investigating a probe on the fact of death of road patrol officer  launched under Article 317 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on life of law enforcement officer).

According to investigators, highway patrol officers stopped a car near the 1664 km of the federal Amur Highway on the evening of September 11, 2021, suspecting that the driver might be carrying narcotic substances, according to intelligence reports. When the inspector approached the vehicle, the driver resumed driving, inflicting fatal injuries on the policeman. After the accident, the driver fled the scene.

As a result of search activities, the suspect's location was established in the Jewish Autonomous Region. The man was detained and questioned by an investigator. The issue of his placement into custody is currently being decided upon.

During gathering the characterizing materials, it was established that the suspect had previously been repeatedly prosecuted for theft of property.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation instructed S. Belyanskiy, the Head of the Amur Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee to report on the circumstances established during the preliminary investigation. The progress of investigation is under the supervision of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
