Alexander Mavridi charged with escape from custody from a temporary detention center in Istra

Alexander Mavridi was questioned by an investigator of the II Major Crimes Investigation Department of the Moscow Region Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia. He was charged with escape from custody (Part 2 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code).

It was previously reported that as a result of a set of investigative actions and search activities by investigators of the Moscow Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and Moscow Regional Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, a fifth escapee, Alexander Mavridi, was detained on 13 September near Mitino in Moscow City. At the interrogation, Mavridi confessed to the investigator and explained all the circumstances surrounding his escape and that he had been hiding in abandoned buildings in Moscow and the Moscow Region. 3,000 dollars, 1,350 euros and 70,000 roubles were seized from Mavridi's rucksack. The investigator conducted a set of urgent investigative actions with the accused, after which Mavridi was sent to a temporary detention facility.

In August 2021, four escapees from the temporary holding facility were detained. In addition, probes against officials accused of abuse of power (Paragraph C of Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) are being investigated.

Earlier, Alexander Bastrykin, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, had instructed the head of the Moscow Regional Main Investigations Directorate to report on the progress of the probe into the escape of five prisoners from the temporary isolator of the Interior Ministry of Russia for the city of Istra and on the current outcome of the investigation into the criminal case of the murder of a businessman.

The criminal investigations are ongoing.
