Investigation of a probe into one of mediators in bribery to the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Kamchatka Territory

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia completed the investigation of the criminal case against the former commander of a separate platoon of the traffic police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Elizovsky district Alexander Konovalov. He is accused of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of the RF (mediation in bribery for knowingly committing illegal acts by a person using his official position, committed by a group of people by prior collusion, on a large scale).

According to investigators, in July 2020, Konovalov, together with four other police officers mediated in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky a bribe. The money in the amount of 2 million rubles was given to the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Kamchatka Territory from a businessman for the illegal return of detained fish products, transported in the absence of the required veterinary certificates.

During the investigation the property of the accused in the amount of 1.7 million rubles was seized.

The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence and the criminal case against Konovalov was transferred to court.

With respect to two more accomplices, who signed pre-trial agreements on cooperation, the criminal cases were sent to court in November this year, where they are considered on the merits.

With regard to the bribe-taker and two other accomplices the investigation continues.
