A Criminal Case Has Been Initiated Against the Commander of the “Georgian National Legion” in Ukraine

The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal case against Mamuka Mamulashvili, the commander of the “Georgian National Legion”, and other persons under Parts 1 and 3, Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (recruitment of mercenaries and their participation in an armed conflict). In addition, the actions of Mamulashvili contain signs of a crime under Paragraphs a, b, Part 2, Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (inciting hatred against a social group of military personnel, committed publicly, accompanied by threats of violence, by a person using his official position).

According to the investigation, Mamuka Mamulashvili, a citizen of Georgia, created the said armed unit on the territory of Ukraine, acted as its leader and involved at least 24 citizens of Georgia as mercenaries in its activities and the activities of a number of other Ukrainian armed units. Until now, they have been taking part in combat operations on the territory of Ukraine against representatives of the DPR, LPR and the Russian Armed Forces.

In addition, Mamulashvili’s interview with a journalist of a media outlet has been posted on the Internet with calls for destructive and violent actions, up to the destruction, against Russian servicemen participating in the special military operation in Ukraine.

Investigators have identified other persons involved in the activities of the “Georgian National Legion” on the territory of Ukraine, as well as other units of mercenaries. The investigation will also give a criminal-legal assessment to their actions.
