Former Russian senior prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko detained in Poland

Today, the Russia’s Investigative Committee received a confirmation that internationally wanted former first deputy prosecutor for the Moscow region Alexander Ignatenko had been detained in Poland.

A.Ignatenko is one of the persons involved in a criminal case of illegal gambling in Moscow area. On 28th June, 2011, the Central Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation charged Ignatenko in absentia with crimes under part 4 of article 159, paragraphs “а,г”, part 4 of article 290 of the Russian Criminal Code (swindling, bribe-taking). The court granted a request for his arrest and he was put on the federal and later international wanted list.

The Polish court is going to consider the extradition of Ignatenko. In case Ignatenko is extradited and handed over to the Russian side, the IC will undertake all necessary procedures: Ignatenko will be taken in custody in line with the earlier court decision, he will be charged, and all necessary investigative actions will be executed as well. The investigation of the criminal case is to be continued.
