Charges brought against one of the suspects of killing Alexander Viktorov, Rector of Saint-Petersburg University of Service and Economics

The Leningrad Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have brought charges against Vitaly Kovalyov, one of the suspects. He is charged with a crime under paragraphs “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 (murder committed by a group of persons on hire) and part 1 of article 222 of the RF Criminal Code (illegal purchase, storage and transfer of firearms). In the near future other suspects will also be brought to charges.

As it was reported earlier, three suspects of killing Alexander Viktorov, Rector of saint-Petersburg University of Service and Economics were held during the investigative and search operations. Under the petition of the investigators they were put into custody.

According to investigators, they are hitmen. Investigators established that the three suspects had received through a mediator an order to kill Alexander Viktorov. During two weeks hitmen, having found the victim’s place of residence, studied his schedule, schemes of his movements and carefully plotted the crime which they committed on 5 September in the town of Vsevolzhsk. According to preliminary data the motive of the crime was commercial activity of the University headed by Alexander Viktorov.

At present investigators are establishing other persons involved: mediators, organizers and contractors. Investigation is to be continued.
