Alexander Bastrykin visited Uglich children’s home and heard report on the investigating the case over malfeasances committed by its director and staff

Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has held an operational meeting in Uglich, Yaroslavl Region, where he heard a report of the investigating group on the progress of investigating a criminal case over negligence of management staff of the Uglich children’s home and abuse of powers by its director.

The senior officials of the Investigative Committee learned about abuse of children’s rights in the Uglich children’s home from media, which reported that orphans were kept in insanitation and that children had to eat foodstuffs of poor quality during 2011-2012. As a result several children from the children’s home were hospitalized with different illnesses.

Director of the Uglich children’s home Natalina Tikhontseva has already been charged with abuse of power and negligence (part 1 of article 285 and part 1 of article 293 of the RF Criminal Code). In addition on 22 January, court granted of the investigators on temporary removal of Tikhontseva. The accused is under written undertaking not to leave the place. After hearing the report Mr. Bastrykin ordered additional investigating operations over the case.

Immediately after the meeting Mr. Bastrykin visited the Uglich children’s home, where he talked to children and the staff. He assured them that the investigation would be impartial and complete and promised to take it under his personal control.
