Criminal investigation launched into crash of Angara Mi-8 helicopter in Irkutsk Region

On 6 May 2013, at 10 AM, Moscow time, a Mi-8 helicopter of Angara airlines in Katangsky district, Irkutsk Region after refueling took off to monitor flood situation en route Burovaya 111- the village of Preobrazhenka. There were 9 people aboard, including 6 staffers of The Russian Emergency Ministry and 3 crew members and 1,920 kg of explosives. The helicopter failed to contact on due time. Search-and-rescue operation is underway.

East Siberian Federal District Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case over a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (violation of safety rules of traffic and operation of air transport inflicting death of two or more people).

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crash. An investigating group is going to move out to the scene.
