Criminal investigation launched in Kurgan Region in explosion in magistrate court

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in Kurgan Region have launched a criminal investigation in the explosion, which happened on 1 November 2013, at about 2 PM in the magistrate court at the address No 1 “a” in 5th microdistrict of the village of Zaozyorny and killed two people as containing signs of crimes under article 317 of the RF Penal Code (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement agent), part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a” and “f” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder of two or more people committed in a generally dangerous way), part 1 of article 222 (illegal circulation of weapons).

According to investigators, one of the killed was a bailiff and the other was a man born in 1961, a resident of the town of Kurgan, who had been prosecuted for a crime under article 116 of the RF Penal Code (battery) and had come to the court for hearing. He came carrying an explosive device on him (presumably a grenade). When bailiffs tried to search him, he set off the explosive killing one of the bailiffs and injuring two more people. The injured were hospitalized and their lives are out of danger, the magistrate was not hurt. The perpetrator died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

An investigating group has been built to investigate the crime. The investigators are checking all possible versions of the crime.

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
