Investigative Committee Chairman Alexander Bastrykin pays working visit to Republic of Azerbaijan

A meeting between Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin and Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has taken place today at the prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the meeting the parties discussed in detail a wide range of issues concerning the international cooperation between the two agencies. They reconciled the final variant of the draft Agreement on cooperation between the Russia’s Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, planned to be signed in the near future.

The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General familiarized the Russian delegation with the structure of prosecutor’s office in Azerbaijan, its powers and described in detail the work of the created within the prosecutor general’s office independent anti-corruption unit, with a wide range of authority, including opportunity to conduct search and investigating operations. Considering the positive practices of the foreign colleagues, the Russian party told about considering an opportunity to implement separate elements in the law enforcement system in the Russian Federation.

Mr. Bastrykin thanked for warm and cordial welcome, highly appreciated the success of the Azerbaijani prosecutor’s office in combating crimes and offences, protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens and state interests.

The parties recognized the direct dialogue useful and confirmed their readiness to consolidate and extent the cooperation in the area of criminal proceedings.
