Investigators and forensic investigators of Central Office and regional directorates of Russia’s Investigative Committee sent to Volgograd to assist inquiry in terrorist attack

The local directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into an explosion on a trolleybus 15A as containing signs of a crime under articles 205 and 222 of the RF Penal Code (terrorist attack and illegal circulation of weapons).

A powerful explosion rocked today about 08:10 AM on a trolleybus 15A in Dzerzhinsky district in the city of Volgograd. According to preliminary information, at least 10 people were killed and 19 injured. The trolleybus was destroyed.

At the moment bomb-disposal technicians are at work at the scene and until they have finished we can’t say anything about the type or power of the explosive device. An investigating team of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has started initial investigating operations. Eye witnesses of the crime are being identified and the recordings of the CCTV cameras are being seized. The investigators are already questioning the survivors, whose condition allow them talking.

Investigators and forensic investigators of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and experienced personnel of territorial directorates from neighboring regions have been sent to Volgograd to assist the inquiry.

This is the second terrorist attack over the past 24 hours in Volgograd. The investigators do not rule out that there can be a connection, but still consider all possible versions.
