In Moscow sentence passed on one of killers of head of Khasavyurt district, Dagestan

Court has found the evidence gathered by the Main Investigation Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Gilani Saipov. He was found guilty of crimes under paragraphs “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105 (murder committed by a generally dangerous way by an organized group), part 3 of article 33, paragraphs “a”, “f” and “g” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder), part 3 of article 222 of the RF Penal Code (illegal circulation of firearms by an organized group).

The court and investigators have found that on 27 September 2009, Gilani Saipov, Zaurbek Magomedov and other persons known to the investigators in a Mercedes S350 and their accomplice Khabib Budaykhanov in a Mitsubishi Pajero, drove up to a house in Novocheryomushkinskaya Street in Moscow, where Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, the head of Khasavyurt district, Dagestan, was living for the time being. Having waited until head of Khasavyurt district and his bodyguard Nadzhmutdin Mitikov approached the entrance to the house, the killers opened fire. As a result of the attack, Alkhamatov was killed at the scene and Mitikov was badly wounded. Saipov was to drive away the killers in Mitsubishi Pajero, but lost control of the car. As the result the perpetrators had to leave the car and guns and flee. During the examination of the scene the investigators confiscated: 6 submachine guns – 2 AKS-74U, 4 Scorpions, silencers, hats with holes for eyes and gloves. Budaykhanov failed to run away and was detained by law enforcement agents.

The investigators have done a great amount of work to identify all the people involved in the murder which took place over 4 years ago and to gather the evidence of their guilt. Investigating operations were carried out in several subjects of the Russian Federation and in Germany. A lot of complex expert examinations were run, including ballistics, dactylographic, medical, molecular and DNA, handwriting. Saipov fully admitted his guilt under the load of all the evidence.

The court has sentenced Saipov to 13 years in a maximum-security penal colony.

Earlier Budaykhanov was sentenced to 12 years in a maximum-security penal colony.

Investigation is ongoing.
