In Altai Territory director of rehab where fire killed eight detained

The Altai Territory investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have detained director of the Chisty List rehabilitation center for drug addicts Maxim Kozhatov. He is suspected of a crime under part 3 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (executing work or rendering service which do not meet life and health safety standards of consumers involving death of two or more people by negligence).

According to investigators, in the morning of 27 April 2014, 8 patients rehabilitating from drug and alcohol addiction were killed during a fire in the rehabilitation center in the village of Ozero-Krasilovo, Kosikha District. 6 more people were taken to hospital with different injuries.

At present investigating operations necessary to find out all the circumstances of the incident and the cause of the fire are underway. Forensic DNA, chemical, medical and fire technical tests have been assigned, witnesses, patients of the center and their relatives are being questioned.

During the probe investigators are going to classify the actions of the director of the center as improper organization of care of patients, as well as actions of oversight bodies. Investigation is ongoing.
