Experienced criminalists of Central Office of Investigative Committee joined examination of train crash scene in Moscow Region

Criminalists of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have been sent to Naro-Fominsk District to provide practical assistance in investigating the causes of the train crash in the Moscow Region.

According to initial information, a container came off a freight train travelling to Moscow at span Bekasovo-1 – Naro-Fominsk and hit a passenger train heading for Kishinev damaging three cars. 6 people were killed in the accident and 25 more taken to hospitals.

The Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of railway transport traffic and operation safety rules resulting in death of two or more people by negligence).

At present the investigators are looking into three versions of the accident: improper state of the freight train, bad railway track and violations made by the freight train crew.

By the investigators have established that the railways were repaired not long before the accident.

Investigating operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the accident. Investigators of the Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate and experienced criminalists of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are examining the crash scene and setting up tests. The investigators have confiscated speedometer lines from both trains and sent them to be analyzed.
