In Moscow deputy Konstantin Shirshov found guilty of attempted fraud

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict State Duma deputy Konstantin Shirshov. He was charged with a crime under part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (attempted fraud).

The court and investigators have found that Shirshov having an intent to steal money by fraud, acting in accomplice with Vadim Gurzhiy, Vladimir Myasin and Leonid Karagod, demanded from a businessman 7.5 million euros for a promise of a deputy mandate. On 7 July 2011, Shirshov received from a businessman part of the sum of 66 million rubles for guaranteed election in the State Duma. Shirshov’s wrongdoings were stopped by law enforcement and the money confiscated.

The court has sentenced Shirshov to 5 years to be served in a minimum-security penal colony.

Myasin, Karagod and Gurzhiy have already been convicted.
