Alexander Matusov charged with series of attempted murders of businessmen

An investigator of the first special investigations office of the Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has charged member of a criminal group Alexander Matusov with several attempted murders of businessmen (part 2 of article 15, part 2 article 17.1, paragraphs “e” and “h” of article 102 of the RSFSR Penal Code and part 2 of article 17.1, paragraph “h” of article 102). After that he will be questioned.

Matusov refused to testify referring to article 51 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and did not admit his guilt.

According to investigators, on 17 November 1996, in the village of Sverdlovskoye, Shchelkovo District, Moscow Region, the members of the criminal group, including Matusov, attacked 4 businessmen killing three of them and wounding the fourth one. In addition, during the probe the investigators got proves of close relation between the armed group and the organizers of Kingsepp armed gang.

Earlier a court has sentenced eight members of the criminal group, including its leader to between 6 and 21 years in prison to be served in a maximum-security penalty colony. Matusov and another member of the group Oleg Rogatin had managed to escape. They were put on an international wanted list in June 2010.

Matusov was apprehended thanks to cooperation between law enforcement bodies of Russia and Thailand. Matusov was deported to Russia yesterday. Oleg Rogatin is still internationally wanted.
