Criminal investigation launched in accident in Moscow underground

Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into a crime under part 3 of article 263.1 of the RF Penal Code (violation of transport safety requirements) after an accident in Moscow underground.

According to investigators, on 15 July 2014, at about 8:35 AM three cars derailed while in a tunnel in an accident between Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bulvar stations on Arbat-Pokrovskaya line due to violation of underground railway safety requirements. Over 80 people were injured and 5 more killed in the accident. The information on the casualties is being specified. Moscow Underground Railway suffered great material damage.

At present the specialists are deciding on setting up expert examinations necessary to find the reason why the train derailed. The investigators carry on working at the scene.
