Two more suspects arrested in criminal investigation into accident on Moscow metro

Today, 31-year-old section deputy chief of the metro’s repair department Alexei Trofimov and 55-year-old chief operating officer of the subcontractor "Spetstekhrekonstruktsiya" Anatoly Kruglov were arrested in the criminal investigation into an accident on the Moscow metro. They are suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 263 of the RF Criminal Code (a violation of rules of safety and operating a metro resulting in the death of two or more persons).

According to investigators, Kruglov was responsible for turnout laying on the stretch between stations Park Pobedy (Victory Park) and Slavyansky Bulvar (Slavic Boulevard), but failed to exercise proper control. Investigators believe that Trofimov, who personally participated in the laying of turnouts, did not ensure proper fastening of the switch blade. These actions together with those of other suspects in the criminal case - Valery Bashkatov and Yuri Gordov - led to the accident that resulted in a derailment of an electric train, the death of 22 people and injuries to over 150 metro passengers.

Currently, investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of this tragedy and those involved in it are ongoing.
