In Yaroslavl Region three local residents found guilty of killing elderly women

A court has found the evidence gathered by the investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Yaroslavl Region sufficient to convict three local residents: two men aged 41 and 50, and a woman aged 23. Depending on the role each one of them had in the crimes, they were found guilty of crimes under part 3 of article 162 of the RF Penal Code (robbery – 4 counts), paragraphs “a”, “g” and “j” of part 2 of article 105 (murder – 3 counts), part 3 of article 30, paragraphs “a” and “j” of part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder), part 2 of article 167 (deliberate destruction of property – 3 counts).

The court and investigators have found that in February and March 2013, the defendants while being in different villages of Borisoglebsk District, Yaroslavl Region broke to homes of lonely elderly women to rob. They attacked the women, stole their belongings and money, then killed them and burned their houses in order to conceal the traces. There were four victims aged between 78 and 90. In one case they stole pension money of about 4 thousand rubles the woman had received not long before the robbery. Another woman was a professional painter and had a lot of paintings in her house. The perpetrators stole a bottle of wine and a pair of felted boots, then killed the painter and set her house on fire. All the paintings were destroyed by the fire.

The court has sentenced the 41-year-old man to 22 years in prison to be served in a maximum-security penal colony, the 50-year-old – to 20 years to be served in a maximum-security penal colony and the woman to 5 years in prison postponed until her children reach 14 years of age.
