In Chechen Republic criminal investigation launched in explosion killing police officers

Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee for the Chechen Republic have opened a criminal case in crimes under article 317 (attempt on the life of law-enforcement officials), part 1 of article 222 of the RF Penal Code (illegal circulation of firearms) after the explosion rocked the city of Grozny.

In the evening of 5 October 2014, around 5 PM, an explosion happened near a concert hall in Isayev prospekt in the city of Grozny. According to investigators, there had to be a concert dedicated to the city’s anniversary tonight. Police officers saw a suspicious young man near the metal detectors. When they tried to search him, he set off an unidentified explosive device. According to preliminary reports, at least five police officers were killed by the explosion, twenty more were wounded.

The assumed suspect has already been identified, it was a 19-year-old local resident Apti Mudarov.

At present and investigating team is working at the scene to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
