On 8 December 2014, a few detainees refused to obey legal requirements of the administration of detention center No 1 (Chelyabinsk) after they had found a forbidden object – a cell phone on one of them. The detainees damaged the center’s property. The Chelyabinsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into a crime under parts 1 and 2 of article 212 of the RF Penal Code (organization and participation in mass riots).

A team is working at the scene at the moment. Together with the team there is the Head of the Chelyabinsk Region Investigations Directorate.

At present a number of investigating and search operations are underway in the facility to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The order in the facility has been restored, no-one of the detainees was injured. The investigation is ongoing.
