In Komi Republic criminal investigation launched following report published in media about failure to provide timely medial aid to an elderly man

The Komi Republic investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee following the results of a check carried out into the report posted on the website of one of news agencies about failure to provide timely medical assistance to a veteran of the Great Patriotic War in Knyazhpogost District and his death have decided to open an investigation in a crime under article 125 of the RF Penal Code (failure to give assistance to persons in mortal danger).

According to investigators, on 26 November 2014, an emergency team attended a call of a 91-year-old local resident. During the examination the medics found that he was in grave condition and unconscious. However, they did not take any measures to take him to the district hospital for further examination and treatment, but left him in his house to the care of a social worker. A few hours later the elderly man was taken to hospital at last based on the repeated call. On 4 December the man died at the hospital of exacerbation of a chronic disease.

Necessary inquiries have been assigned following the results of which the investigators will reveal if there were any cause-effect relations between the actions of the medical personnel and the patient’s death. The investigation is ongoing.
