Circumstances of food poisoning of children preliminarily revealed in Irkutsk Region

The Irkutsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continues investigating a criminal case opened in a crime under part 1 of article 238 of the RF Penal Code (providing services which do not meet life and health safety standards) after food poisoning of children at one of schools in the town of Irkutsk.

We remind that 87 cases of acute enteric norovirus infection among children of primary school have been registered since 12 December 2014. 31 people applied for medical aid, the rest 56 cases were discovered by doctors during examinations at home. 8 children were hospitalized and later discharged. The rest of them are being treated at home.

According to investigators the infection spread around the school by means of water and later by contact. The transmission factor was water from a dispenser.

At present 60 children have been recognized victims. 11 employees of companies supplying the school with water, including their co-founders and top managers have been questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
