In Tatarstan second suspect – deputy CEO of OOO Zarya detained under investigation in Admiral fire case

The Tatarstan investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case opened in a fire in the Admiral shopping center, a crime under part 2 of article 219 of the RF Penal Code (breach of fire safety requirements entailing death of 2 or more people by negligence).

Deputy Safety Director of Admiral shopping center Nikolai Kayekin, 34, was detained on 13 March on suspicions of being involved in the crime.

The man has not pled guilty. A court will soon consider placing him in custody pending trial.

In the afternoon of 11 March 2015, a fire 18.2 thousand square meters in area started at the Admiral shopping center in Klara Tsetkin street in the city of Kazan. According to the latest data 23 people were injured and 17 were killed in the fire: 13 of them were found under the debris and 4 died at hospital.

On 13 March, a court ruled to place CEO of OOO Zarya Gakhramanov, the leaseholder of the Admiral shopping center, in custody pending trial.

At present investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
