In Komi Republic medical assistant to stand trial for failure to help Great Patriotic War veteran

Komi Republic investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigating a criminal case against a medical assistant of Emergency Aid of Knyazhpogost central district hospital charged with a crime under article 125 of the RF Penal Code (abandoning in danger).

According to investigators on 26 November 2014, an emergency team attended a call of a 91-year-old local man. The examination showed that the patient was in grave condition and unconscious. The medical assistant failed to take any measures to stabilize his condition or to transport him to the hospital for treatment. Instead the patient was left home under the watch of a social worker. After repeated calls of the man’s relatives, several hours later the patient was hospitalized, however, it was too late and the man got worse. Despite the treatment, the man died in the hospital on 4 December 2014, of acute condition of a chronic disease.

The investigators have gathered enough evidence, so the case with the approved indictment will soon be sent to court to be tried on the merits.
