Roshen confectionary in Lipetsk searched under fraud case

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation in a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code after 180 million rubles was stolen by illegal VAT compensation by OAO Roshen, Lipetsk Confectionary Plant. The criminal case was opened based on the records provided by the Federal Security Service.

Today investigators are searching the confectionary and offices of scientific and production firm Metallimpress in the city of Nizhny Novgorod to confiscate objects and documents vital for the investigation.

According to investigators, in 2012-2013, representatives of the said companies filed with interregional tax inspection for Lipetsk Region forged documents stating that the construction of the confectionary worth 1 billion rubles had been finished in 2012. They also requested to compensate 180 million rubles of VAT. However, the cost of the construction work conducted by subcontractors involved by Metallimpress was obviously inflated while some of the firms involved did not run any economic activities whatsoever. Those forged documents became the basis for transferring 180 million rubles of illegally compensated VAT to the bank account of the Roshen confectionary. This way the federal budget suffered pecuniary damage on a very large scale.

At present investigative and search operations are underway to find out all the circumstances of the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
