Another case opened against former governor of Sakhalin Region

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched another investigation against former governor of Sakhalin Region Alexander Khoroshavin. In addition, former minister of agriculture, trade and rations of Sakhalin Region Nikolay Borisov and former vice chairman of Sakhalin Region government in charge of fishing industry and agricultural sector Sergey Karepkin are also under investigation.

Khoroshavin and Karepkin are suspected of a crime under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (taking a bribe on a very large scale), Borisov of part 4 of article 291 (mediation in bribery on a very large scale).

According to investigators, the officials took a bribe of at least 15 million rubles in cash for actions connected with allocating subsidies for maintaining farmers. During a questioning Borisov and Karepkin gave evidence including that exposing Khoroshavin.

Following a request of investigators a court has ruled to remand Borisov and Karepkin in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
