Bryansk Region ex-governor charged with abuse of power

Bryansk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have charged former governor of Bryansk Region Nikolai Denin with a crime under part 2 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of power by a person occupying a state position in a federal subject).

According to investigators, in December 2011 and January 2012 the governor acted out of mercenary motives and signed resolutions on allocating over 21.8 million rubles from the reserve fund to meet the needs of commercial organization OAO Snezhka controlled by his family. The budget funds were allocated without legal basis for that and were spent by the company on its current economic activity under the pretext of repairs after an explosion in one of its productions shops happened due to a safety breach. The incident of local significance was unreasonably assessed as a disaster.

The reason to open the investigation was the records provided by the Federal Security Service.

At present investigative operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime and consolidate the evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
