Sakhalin Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation against head of autonomous institution Production and Technical Department of Sakhalin Region Administration Alexander Svoyakov. He is suspected of crimes under part 1 of article 285 of the RF Penal Code (abuse of office), part 1 of article 201 (abuse o power).

According to investigators, in the period between July 2008 and March 2012, the suspect wanted to get support from former governor of Sakhalin Region A. Khoroshavin and to please him misused Sakhalin Region budget by spending them on building governor’s residency on the premises of the Sakhalin Region Government’s recreation center and on buying furniture, sports gear and other equipment designed solely for comfortable life of the governor which was not necessary. The said wrongdoings caused unreasonable expenditure of 231 million rubles.

During the probe the investigators are going to qualify actions of all officials in the Sakhalin Region Government involved in misuse of the budget.

The investigation is ongoing.
