The Saint Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 4 of article 296 of the RF Penal Code (violence in connection of an initial investigation) after an attack on a senior investigator of the Saint Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate.

According to investigators, about 1:30 AM, 30 October 2015, an unidentified man splashed an unknown chemical into the face of the senior investigator of the Saint Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate near a house in Narodnoye Opolchenie avenue. After that the man fled the scene. The woman with a chemical burn was taken to the eye trauma station, got medical aid and was discharged.

The investigators consider investigation-related attack as a possible version.

The senior investigator was looking into cases over illegal gambling, power abuse by law-enforcement officials, and some felony cases.

At present investigative and search operations are underway to identify and hold the guilty ones as soon as possible. The investigation is ongoing.
