Probe launched in plane crash in Egypt

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in a crime under article 263 of the RF Penal Code following the crash of Airbus A321 flight 9268 en route from Egypt to Saint Petersburg.

According to preliminary data, the plane took off today at 6:51 AM from Sharm el-Sheikh airport for Saint Petersburg, but disappeared from radars about 23 minutes later. It was carrying 217 passengers and 7 crewmembers.

An investigating team has been set up to look into the circumstances of the crash. An operations center is working in Saint Petersburg. The investigating team of investigators and criminalists of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee who have experience of investigating air crashes is taking off in a Russian Emergencies Ministry jet to take part in investigation carried out at the crash scene by Egyptian authorities. They are going to act in agreement with competent bodies and together with representatives of Egypt in accordance with the national and international laws.
