Former deputy minister of physical culture, sports and work with youths of Moscow Region to stand trial for grad fraud

The investigating bodies of the Moscow Region Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigation against former deputy minister of physical culture, sports and work with youths of Moscow Region Sergey Malin. He is charged with a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Penal Code (fraud on a grand scale).

According to investigators, in April 2014, the accused while serving as the deputy minister of physical culture, sports and work with youths of Moscow Region, fraudulently stole over 38 million rubles that had come as subsidies to the Volleyball Center of Moscow Region. Using a fraudulent scheme and having misled the leadership of the volleyball center, he ordered the money to be transferred to the accounts of sham firms and then cashed.

During the investigation the accused admitted his guilt. His property worth about 23 million rubles was arrested.

At present, the investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case with the approved indictment has been sent to court to be tried on the merits.
