Police officer suspected of killing local resident at police station detained in Saint Petersburg

Due to the information received, a criminal investigation launched by Saint Petersburg investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee into a crime under part 2 of article 293 of the RF Penal Code (negligence) after the body of a 37-year-old local resident was found in police station No 26 of the Office of the Russian Ministry of the Interior Krasnogvardeysky district of Saint Petersburg on 11 November 2015, has been re-qualified to the crime under part 1 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder).

The senior crime detection operative of the said police station Andrey Aftemyev has been detained as a suspect.

According to investigators, on 11 November 2015, drunk Artemyev shot at the victim’s head from a PM pistol in his office. The man died on the spot.

Arrest and charges are expected soon.

Investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of the crime, forensic medical, ballistic, criminalistics and other tests have been assigned. The motive of the murder is being looked into. The investigation is ongoing.
