Officials of Moscow metro and their middleman arrested for grand bribery

The investigating bodies of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate have launched a criminal investigation against head of power supply service of Moscow Metro Gleb Verkhovsky, deputy head of power supply service for substation operation Dmitry Borisenko and middleman Alexander Ishchenko. Depending on the role of each one they are charged with crimes under part 6 of article 290 of the RF Penal Code (bribery by an official on a grand scale) and part 4 of article 291.1 (intermediacy in bribery on a grand scale).

According to investigators, in November 2015, head and deputy head of power supply service of Moscow Metro Verkhovsky and Borisenko demanded via middleman Ishchenko a bribe of 15 million rubles from a representative of a company that did electrical work for signing an acceptance certificate in spite of the time of execution and other provisions of the contract were breached.

Law-enforcement officers detained the three accomplices on 13 November 2015, while they were passing the bribe in Moscow Metro.

Following a request of investigators, a court has ruled to remand all three of them in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
