Members of organized criminal group to stand trial for series of murders in Moscow Region

The investigating bodies of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have finished investigation against Vladimir Kornachev and Alexander Lyapin. Depending on the role of each one they are charged with crimes under paragraphs “a”, “d”, “g” and “h” of part 2 of article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder of two or more people, a pregnant woman, committed by a group of people out of mercenary motives), part 3 of article 22 of the RF Penal Code (illegal storage of firearms), parts 2 and 3 of article 158 (theft) and part 2 of article 325 (stealing of documents).

According to investigators, in the period between 2001 and 2013, Vladimir Kornachev while running a print shop wanted to get rid of his partners, who he thought did not let him reach his goals and employed a group of people as perpetrators including Alexander Lyapin, who was a police officer in Moscow Region while committing a number of crimes. For over ten years Kornachev, Lyapin and other gangsters committed crimes in the city of Moscow and Moscow Region including murder of six people. The most cynical crime was a murder of Kornachev’s 24-year-old girlfriend. The investigators believe that the man was afraid that the woman, who was in the 5th month of pregnancy, would tell everybody about his adultery.

The investigators carried out a lot of investigative operations to solve the crimes. They questioned over 75 witnesses, 9 on-site checks of testimonies using forensic equipment, ran over 60 forensic inquiries, such as commission medical ones, DNA, biological, portrait ones and others.

The investigators have enough evidence so the criminal case with the approved indictment will be sent to court to be tried on the merits.
