Probe launched in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra in death of eight teenagers in fire

The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area-Yugra investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal investigation in a crime under part 3 of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (reckless homicide of two or more people) following death of eight teenagers in a fire in the Feniks gardeners’ society in the town of Lyantor.

According to investors, in the evening of 5 December 2015, the teenagers had a birthday party in a holiday house. When the teenagers were in the bath house, it caught fire. The teenagers could not get out and died there. The preliminary cause of death is carbon monoxide inhalation.

The investigative team of Investigative Committee’s investigators and criminalists continue examining the scene. 5 bodies of teenagers were found during the initial investigation. Three more bodies were found later, when debris was removed.

The investigators are carrying out necessary number of investigative operations to find out all the details of the tragedy. Microscopic sections have been taken from the walls of the burned bath house to be processed for fuels and lubricants. Blood samples have been taken from victims’ relatives for DNA tests. The victims’ parents and the owner of the burned bath house are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
