Probe launched in Moscow into fire at industrial enterprise killing twelve

The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into a crime under part 2 of article 167 of the RF Penal Code (deliberate destruction or damage of property involving death of a person or other grievous consequences).

According to investigators, in the evening of 30 January 2016, a fire started on 3,000 square meters in an industrial building in Stromynka street in Moscow. The roof collapsed during the fire. Dead bodies of twelve people were found on the fire scene.

At present, investigators and criminalists of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate and workers of emergency services are working at the scene. Preliminary investigation is ongoing at the fire site to find out all the details of what happened. Workers are removing debris. The investigators are looking into different versions of the fire, including a domestic fire, technical fire, arson and some others. A number of tests are going to be run to find out the cause of death of the people. The investigation is ongoing.
