In Moscow, preliminary check underway following media reports on emergency landing in Sheremetyevo airport

The Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee is carrying out a preliminary check into media reports about a crash landing of an aircraft in Sheremetyevo airport en route from Moscow to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

According to preliminary information, on 7 February 2016, at 5 PM, an airplane which belonged to PAO Aeroflot – Russian Airlines took off from Sheremetyevo airport. It had aboard 243 passengers, including 12 children and 9 crewmembers. At 7:30 PM, the commander of the aircraft which was at the altitude of over 10 thousand meters, send a report that the windshield got cracked. After that they made a decision to go back to the airport of departure. At 12:21 AM, 8 February 2016, the plane landed normally at Sheremetyevo airport. The examination showed that the outer windshield got cracked while that inner one stayed unbroken.

 At present, investigative operations are underway to find out all the details of and reasons for the incident. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
